Bellows
At Proflex Hose, we stock a range of hose bellows to fit a variety of requirements. A hose bellow is a mobile or compressible section of hose, often made from a flexible, vibration-absorbing material like rubber or consisting of a concertina-style pipe configuration, which allows some movement within the hose assembly, and often, this bellows is used to negate vibration or prevent it from travelling from one area in the assembly to another.
Hose bellows and bellows assemblies can also be used to absorb noise and exhaust gasses, or to compensate for pipe misalignment by providing a flexible connecting section between pipes. Rubber moulded bellows hose is particularly suitable for this use, thanks to its shape and construction material.
What Types of Bellows are Available at Proflex Hose?
Proflex Hose stock a wide range of hose bellows to suit a variety of tasks. The bellows which we stock can largely be divided into two types – exhaust bellows and moulded rubber bellows hose, which are best suited to different applications.
Exhaust Bellows
Exhaust Bellows are hose bellows designed to absorb vibration, noise & exhaust gasses together with small amounts of axial, lateral & angular movements in high temperature, low-pressure applications.
Supplied as standard with c/stl or s/stl flanges or they can be custom made from different materials and to specific dimensions especially to suit each application, be it replacement of existing expansion joints or brand new systems. This type of hose bellows is particularly effective as a vibration absorber.
Moulded Rubber Bellows Hose
Moulded Rubber Bellows hose is a type of hose bellows designed to compensate for misalignment, neutralise movement and reduce noise and vibration in pipelines. They effectively dampen the transmission of sound and vibration from plant items in building service installations, and can be used for many applications including water, oils, chemicals, gases and in the food industry depending upon the grade of the rubber used in the rubber bellows hose.
Bellows Construction
The bellows available from Proflex Hose are easily attached to hose assemblies and other machinery, and are made to last, offering long lifetimes of service at very competitive prices. Composite Hose
Designed to carry a range of fluids, including fuels, oils and liquid chemicals, a composite hose is made from a mix of materials, making these hoses more versatile and adaptable than other hose types.
Composite Hose Design and Construction
Built around the “Mandrel Wrapped Principle”, composite hose pipe is made by first making a spiral of strong, durable wire, then wrapping layers of a polymer, film or fabric over it, before finally binding the new hose in a second spiral of strong wire.
These two spirals of wire can be made from galvanised steel, stainless steel, aluminium, polymer-coated steel or a range of alloys, providing the ability to tailor your hose to the task it will perform. No matter what metal is chosen for the wire spirals, however, these vital components provide the pressure resistance which composite hoses are known for, and keep the hose tightly bound together under pressure.
This construction also allows the composite hose to be made with a range of film or polymer materials, including common and specialist polymers, depending on the task required of the hose.
This combination of wire variety and polymer variety makes composite hose more adaptable and more suited to bespoke applications than any other hose type available from Proflex Hose – composite hose pipe can be tailored to the fluid carried, the specific pressure, temperature and mechanical requirements like length and durability, providing unmatched versatility!
Composite Hose Available Sizes
The composite hose available from Proflex Hose can be made in sizes ranging from 1” to 4”, and can reach lengths of up to 20m, ensuring that no matter how much composite hose you need, we’ll be able to help.
Composite Hose Properties
Composite hose properties change depending on the materials used in their construction, and this versatility is their greatest strength. However, broadly speaking, the composite hose available from Proflex Hose demonstrates qualities including impressive pressure resistance (from 10.5 Bar to 14 Bar), and a wide range of operating temperatures (from -30°C to 115°C).
Composite hose is also extremely resistant to corrosion, making it ideal for carrying fuels and other hydrocarbons, including both leaded and unleaded petrol, diesel, lubricating oils and fuel oils, which can pose a challenge to other hose types.
Applications
Because of their innate versatility, composite hose pipes are suited to a very wide variety of applications – usage limitations will depend on the type of composite hose ordered and will be specified when your order is made. While usage specifications will be specified, other factors may be present in any particular application which are not included in the specification, including mechanical abuse, abrasion, safety risks to staff and other factors. Unless all these details are given to Proflex Hose Ltd in advance so that the best possible product for the application can be recommended, we regret that we cannot accept responsibility for unsatisfactory performance.

PTFE Convoluted Hose
PTFE convoluted hose is a hard-wearing multipurpose hose which is suitable for a variety of applications. Made from convoluted PTFE for seamless construction, PTFE hose pipe has excellent flexibility and sports impressive resistance to temperature and chemicals, and is easy to clean and maintain.
These attributes make convoluted PTFE hose an excellent choice for a wide range of applications, including steam transfer, refrigeration, the automotive industry, and more!
Construction
There are three varieties of PTFE convoluted hose available from Proflex Hose. Each of them is based on a base layer of PTFE convoluted tubing, providing a seamless pipe, able to resist temperature and chemical corrosion and providing an easy-clean PTFE pipe solution which suits dozens of industries.
The first available variety of PTFE convoluted hose available from Proflex Hose is “tube only”, which is an unsheathed PTFE hose. Extremely lightweight, you also benefit from the semi-transparency of the material, but operating pressure must be drastically reduced to no more than 2 Bar.
If you want to compromise between lightweight PTFE convoluted tubing and pressure-capable hose, you can choose the flexible PTFE tubing with polymer braid, which coats your PTFE hose with a sheath of braided orange polypropylene monofilaments, resulting in a hose with excellent chemical resistance at low weight and a much-improved pressure tolerance.
For maximum pressure resistance, chemical resistance and physical durability, choose the stainless steel braided PTFE flexible tubing from Proflex Hose. Coated with a sheath of braided stainless steel wires, this PTFE convoluted tubing is able to work at double the maximum pressure of Polymer Braided hose, and considerably higher temperatures. The stainless steel wire braid also provides considerable physical armour against knocks, abrasions or other mechanical damage.
All three grades of PTFE hose pipe are available with an anti-static PTFE tube instead of the conventional semi-transparent PTFE liner. This anti-static liner is necessary when fluids exhibiting high electrical resistance, like solvents or fuels, are piped through the convoluted PTFE tube. With a lower electrical resistance between the liner and the end fittings, any static electricity which is beginning to collect on or within the pipe can dissipate harmlessly before building to potentially risky levels. This is in accordance with BS2050:1978 – but if in doubt, contact Proflex Hose to see whether your application will need anti-static hose.
Applications
PTFE hose pipe can be used in a huge range of applications, including the petrochemical industry, automotive industry, or in refrigeration or steam transfer, thanks to its chemical and thermal resistance. If you would like to speak to an expert about the potential uses for flexible PTFE tubing in your industry, you can contact Proflex Hose at any time on +44 (0) 1257 220 010!
Hose Assemblies
Convoluted PTFE hose can be supplied without the end fittings already attached, to be assembled on-site or by distributors with either hydraulic end fittings or the short-tail fittings often seen with PTFE hose. PTFE convoluted hose is easily made to fit the spigot tail diameter by using a supplied tool, opening up the convolution to allow the insertion of the spigot without applying heat. Alternatively, you may choose a complete pipe assembly from Proflex Hose, which are available with all conventional types of PTFE hose end fitting. If you would prefer, hoses can also be supplied with ends “cuffed” to enable you to fit your own end pieces.
Certification
If necessary, both the PTFE convoluted hoses and the full PTFE hose assemblies can be provided with full certificates of conformity, alongside certificates confirming successful tests and materials quality. However, if you need these items to be included with your order, please be sure to specify this while placing the order with us.
Use in Application
Usage limitations of PTFE convoluted tubing are specified herein, but over the course of a particular application, other limiting factors such as physical abuse, mechanical damage, safety risks to your workforce and other risk factors may impact performance. Unless these details are provided to Proflex Hose Limited in advance to allow the most suitable product to be recommended, we regret that we cannot accept any responsibility for unsatisfactory performance.

The Stainless steel braided hose is perfect for industries working with heating, ventilation and automation. This is due to the hose’s high resistance to pressure and also due to their durability. This range of hose usually comes in a variety of bore sizes and lengths, also with different end connections.
Stainless Steel Hose Construction
The flexible metal hose available from Proflex Hose is made to a strict standard, ensuring a reliable, high-quality hose that always performs to the level you require. The core of the flexible stainless steel hose is a relatively thin tube, which is corrugated to allow flexibility in any direction without compromising strength or durability. Around this flexible core, a weave of stainless steel wire is placed, sheathing the interior tube and providing impressive resistance against pressure from inside and out, as well as improving durability and providing powerful protection against physical damage, corrosion and the elements. More than one layer of this braiding may be fitted as necessary, depending on your needs.
Flexible Stainless Steel Conduit Applications
As the corrugated interior tube is seamless, stainless steel conduit is ideal for use with liquids or gasses under pressure, especially when fitted with external braiding. With first-rate corrosion resistance, a stainless steel flexible conduit is also ideal for use in chemically demanding situations – and this combination of factors makes them absolutely perfect for use in the petrochemical industry, or in steelmaking, chemical smelting, the automotive industry the power generation industry and dozens more.
These stainless steel hoses can be used in a range of roles within these industries, including carrying fluids and gases, correcting misalignment in piping or absorbing vibrations.
When you purchase a flexible metal hose from Proflex Hose, you can be sure that you are receiving a quality product. All of our stainless steel conduits are tested underwater, pumped full of compressed air and held under high pressure to ensure no leaks anywhere on the assembly.
